Ride & handling
At higher speeds, the V50 is a stable car with a very controlled feel. Twisty routes and roads can also be coped with plenty of ease. This is thanks to high levels of grim with very little body roll. The steering has responsive feel with a firm yet comfortable ride.
Quality & reliability
The cabin is fitted with some good quality fixtures, the finish is of a high standard and seems to be built to a high standard. The 5-cylinder engines in the range are also used in the S60 and S80, as a result they are well proven and should not let you down. On customer surveys, quality and reliability of Volvos are always above average.
Safety & security
The Volvo V50 is a relatively small estate, however it has as strong a focus on safety and security. The V50 was also awarded a 5/5 rating for Euro NCAP crash tests. Fitted in all models across the range: side and curtain airbags & stability control, deadlocks, integrated stereo. Laminated side glass is available as a upgrade option.

We feel every V50 is well equipped. If you decide to go for the S model, this comes with electronic climate control,cruise control, front & rear electric windows, 16-inch alloys, remote central locking. Buyers opting for the sport models will also get larger alloy wheels + a sportier looking trim and suspension system. Optional extras on SE and SE Sport models include leather upholstery, upgraded stereo, automatic wipers & electrically adjustable drivers seat with a handy memory feature to remember settings for different drivers.
