Behind the wheel
The 5 Series has simple rotary dials to work the stereo & ventilation systems. They can also be worked through the iDrive control system using a dial linked to a dashboard mounted display. It is also easier to work than the version fitted to the BMW 7 Series. The driving position is excellent, this is thanks to the multi-adjustable seat and steering wheel.
Space & Storage
The 5 series is one of the most spacious executive saloons, especially the case for rear seat passengers. There is plenty of room for legs. The boot features a healthy 520 litres of space.
Equipment
All Fives come with a wheel-mounted control for the stereo & climate control, and the iDrive system that works the stereo, ventilation + traction control. All models also have a CD player & electric seats, the optional Comfort seats have active head restraints this is to cushion the head in the event of a crash. An optional display projects vital information onto the windscreen (HUD) in the driver’s line of sight.
Engines
When pushed hard, the engines make a nice sporting bark. If you opt for a more relaxed style, however, they are muted. The diesels are a shade more audible than the petrol models, however they make a sporting thrum rather than a clatter. Wind & road noise are very well contained at motorway speeds.
