Behind the wheel
The 159 has a key slot and pushbutton ignition control system, but the rest of the dash is fuss-free. The instruments are big and bold, while the controls for the stereo & heating functions are clearly labelled which makes them easy to use. The two way steering wheel adjustment will be fine for most drivers.
Equipment
Every model is very well equipped, the base Turismo spec provides alloy wheels, full electric windows, remote central locking, dual zone climate control, CD player and stability control. The top of the range Lusso spec adds leather seats and parking sensors.
Safety & security
The safety kit is comprehensive. Included are: stability control and front, side, and curtain airbags, along with driver’s knee ’bag. There are also front-seat head restraints to minimise whiplash injuries.
This Alfa Romeo was also awarded the maximum 5 star rating by EURO NCAP.
Refinement
Refinement is impressive, better than its German rivals. Road and wind noise are subdued, engine noise wasn’t an issue on all models Covase tested
